REM 2015 PRE-CONFERENCE EVENT Sunday October 18 | 3:00 PM

Made possible by

Catholic University Solar Carport Tour

Visit the carport solar array at Catholic University, home to the very first solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in the District of Columbia.

REM 2015 attendees will have the (free!) opportunity to visit one of the first large-scale solar campus installations in the Washington DC area. Catholic University, founded in 1887, has a long-standing commitment to sustainability. As part of this commitment, they partnered with WGL Energy and Standard Solar beginning in 2009 to install solar in several phases on rooftops, carports, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The tour will start in the carport area. WGL Energy and Standard Solar experts will highlight the innovative features of the carport, EV charging stations, and rooftop arrays, discussing the installation process and answering attendees' questions.

The group will then take a short bus ride to a solar picnic table, the winning design in a contest sponsored by the University. The tour will conclude with a discussion of the unique ways in which the university utilizes the solar array and picnic table as educational tools in the classroom, student design competitions, and beyond.

Tour Schedule

Transportation will be provided to and from the tour from the conference hotel. Please meet in the Hilton Crystal City lobby for check-in at 2:45 PM on Sunday, October 18. The bus will depart the hotel promptly at 3:00 PM.
